Rahama Sidi Ali, a well-known actress in the Kannywood Hausa film industry, who portrays a mother in the long-running series “Labarina,” recently shared the challenges she encountered when she first started filming the show. In an interview with our representative Rabi’at Sidi Bala, Rahama Sidi Ali discussed the perceptions and difficulties she faced due to her role as a mother in the series, among other issues.
When asked to introduce herself and provide a brief background, Rahama Sidi Ali stated that she was born and raised in Kaduna and has spent her entire life there. She was born on July 22, 1989, and completed her primary and secondary education in Kaduna before attending Polytechnic Kaduna.
Regarding her family, Rahama Sidi Ali mentioned that she does not have a family of her own at the moment but hopes to have one in the future.
If I understand correctly, you’re asking if I have never been married. No, I have been married even though I didn’t give birth.
I was attracted to the Kannywood industry because I have been interested in the film industry since I was young. I developed a passion for it as I grew up. I used to spend time at Yakubu Lere’s shop, and even at home, I was always interested in film products. After my divorce, I thought to myself, “Why not pursue my interest in the film industry?” It’s an exciting opportunity for me, and that’s what caught my attention.
What was the struggle to enter the industry?
I didn’t face much struggle when entering the film industry, so I am grateful for that. I didn’t experience the kind of difficulties that others often talk about. I entered the industry comfortably and easily, and I am thankful for that.
Most people know me from the show Labarina. I have appeared in three to four films. My first film was ‘Far Mace,’ directed by Dansudan in Kaduna. After that, I appeared in ‘Matar Abokini’ and ‘Kwana’inin.’ I also appeared in the women’s commission. These are the films I have worked on, apart from ‘My Story.’
“At what age do you start filming?”
I believe I started filming around six years ago.
How did you find yourself in the program of my Labarina and Kwana Casa’in?
Let me start with Kwana Casa’in, a ‘cousin’ of mine. We were living with him, and I told him that I love Dadin Kowa of Arewa24. He mentioned that he knows someone in Arewa24, Aminu, who hosts the Top 10 program. He contacted Aminu, who mentioned he was going to Umrah and would discuss my situation with the producer upon his return. Aminu spoke to the producer upon his return, and I was asked to go to Arewa24. After answering a few questions, I signed up. As I was about to start working, they called me and asked if I was interested in the job. Initially, I hesitated, but eventually, I expressed my interest, and they provided the necessary funds. I vividly remember the evening when I traveled to Jigawa and began working there.
Regarding Labarina, I requested it myself and was given Malam’s number. I contacted him via WhatsApp to discuss Sumayya. However, he didn’t respond at that time. After a couple of months, Yunusa Mu’azu, whom I knew and had worked with for 90 days, called me. He offered me a job, and when I asked for details, he informed me that it would be in Gombe, to which I agreed. When I arrived, Dan Ma’azu instructed me to start the next day.
What was your first start?
She laughed and said, “When I first started, I was confused and a little worried because it was a big role that I saw in Uwa as Maryam’s mother. Asma’u Sani, who I share a room with, gave me the confidence to do it. It’s not a problem. For the whole Ninety Days, I didn’t speak, I usually sat down. The White Woman also spoke, but the words were different from the words I saw in my story, so I started to think whether I could or not. It was the first time I came to the place, and I was not familiar with them. I asked if I could let them go for a while to remove the shame because I am really shy to talk in front of many people and it gave me trouble. So, that’s how it came to the ‘shooting.’ When I read, the camera came, and I acted like I was reading, which means I’m not good at speaking in a movie. Since I have been doing it, I am afraid that God will help me, and it will start to enter my body, and I will start ‘acting’ properly. But if the viewers notice that at the beginning of my act, I didn’t relax, there was a bit of fear, and there was a lack of speech. But when the thing started entering my body, and we got used to it, I saw that it was nothing. It’s a shame like mine, but if you put aside the shame, you will do anything, that’s what I did, but I was in a different situation at that time.”
When you showed your parents that you wanted to join the film industry, did you get any challenges from them or not?
Allah Sarki, I would have started a film business. My parents are not alive, except for the mother and the father, God took what he had. Except for my two brothers, my father’s family, and my mother’s family, I didn’t have any challenges to come and see, even to God. Because they know who I am and they know what I will do, they know what I cannot do. And I’m not bragging or kidding myself. Equally, I am calm, and I have self-control, they know that I will never do something that will destroy our dignity, even if it touches the dignity of our house, they know that I will not do it, I am trying to protect it, although It’s not quite ten, but I’m trying to keep it. Even when I came to meet my sister and said that I wanted to join the film industry, she did not stop me. She only advised me to keep my dignity, to respect myself, to know what I am, and not to do anything that would destroy my dignity. In the movie, that’s the advice she gave me; there’s only one person I wanted to have a problem with, that’s Wana, and he also sat down with my sister, and I sat down to understand him and everything passed.
About the people of the neighborhood when you first saw your face appear in the movie, did you get any challenge from them or not?
Thank God, I didn’t have any challenges with the people of the neighborhood, but my ‘Respect’ increased in their eyes and the way they showed that they liked my act, made them happy and I impressed them more, between me and them, there is only prayer they do it at the beginning of the new year.
In the years you have been in the Kannywood industry, have you ever faced any challenges in the industry?
Honestly, I have never faced any challenge in the Kannywood industry, I have never had a ‘problem’ with anyone.
What kind of success have you had in the film industry?
Alhamdulillah, even though I am now rising, the world is now aware of me, because even though I have done movies in the past, no one has known about me, except for my story, God has lifted me, and my story has lifted me to be known, then it is equal The truth is that I am getting success, I have nothing to say to God but thank you, and I am proud of my story plan.
As many viewers see that Maryam has grown to be a son rather than a sister, did you hear when you were told that she will be your daughter?
Honestly, at first, I felt like I was going to come out as a mother, and I looked at Maryam Zangadediyar, a young woman, and I looked at my two children, and I said, “Anya, will I tell you that I gave birth to these children?” I said that it is a movie, and maybe some things can add to us. But at first, I felt a difference, and I saw that there was a little difference between me and her because I was older than her, but when I chose my lord, God made this choice for me, and I felt that it was good for me to go and do this. The role. When I started I didn’t hear anything, then I felt that I wanted the role, and the way people were praising me, praying, and saying that I was a good woman, was good, I was happy to appear in Uwar, I said today that if I was given a bad role, the audience would insult me, my dignity would be lost, but I was given a respectable role and I was happy. It’s not, and it’s a chance in the film industry, you can appear as an old woman, a young woman, a girl, a widow.
Have you ever had any challenges with that?
Apart from the fans, I get challenges from them, for example; Tiktok when I go on or follow a song, I hear people saying that you are a mother, an old woman, what is the heart of children, what do you do, you should not be like that, my mother, because people seem to have no understanding. It’s a movie, they are even older than me and they are dancing on Tiktok, except I don’t do any other dancing, that’s why I have a little problem with them, but it doesn’t bother me because I don’t care about them, I like the role now.
Like from the side of your suitors, doesn’t this affect them in such a way that they will retreat when they see that you are not a girl, that you are too old for them, or that you are too old for them? A lot of boys are more worried about this kind of thing, so I’m not a fan of collecting boys, I don’t have this idea, but on ‘social media’ I find some boys, you will see someone Who is not more than 23, someone is 25, she will say “seriously” to Maryam’s mother. Come on, I have to do it. Usually, when some people go to my TikTok profile, you hear people say, “Isn’t she an old woman?” this is not a problem.
What would you say to those who do that to you?
You know it is not good to humiliate a human being, and anyone who says he loves you is not your enemy; he is your lover, so between me and them, I just say thank you – thank you, God bless love and love. If they comment, I will give them a ‘Like,’ and for some of them, I will give them a smiling emoji because it is not good to humiliate a person who says that he is treating you and humiliate him. But they know that what is impossible is just self-deception; I owe them that way to separate safely.
Which part do you like the most in the Labarina program, and which part gives you the most trouble?
Yes! Well, honestly, I love all the roles I’ve played, and they impress me; even when I’m watching, I’m happy, but the role I like the most is the role you played in the hospital where I slapped Maryam; honestly, I like the role. And in my opinion, no role makes me sad in my story.
What impressed you about the event? Was it done, or was it the way it was handled that impressed you?
[Laughs] It’s not real; the way the act was given was fighting and shouting; I was so upset that I slapped her; that’s what impressed me; I enjoyed the role of this hospital.
What did you take movies?
I consider movies to be educational, entertaining, and professional. I took it as a profession; you know anyone and the kind of profession that accepted it, then I am honest in my opinion that I take the film as a profession.
Do you have a boss in the Kannywood industry?
Honestly, I don’t have a boss in the Kannywood industry, I don’t know in the future if I will, right now there is none.
What kind of question do people often ask you?
The most common question they ask us is; “How old are you?” we asked more.
What is your next dream about film?
My next wish is for God to bring me a husband and get married, since God fulfilled my wish to enter, and to the best of my ability, I got what I wanted.
After the film industry, do you have any other business?
After the movie, I’m in business, I sell perfumes, incense, Abaya, handbags, shoes, and I already have a shop.
Are you able to combine your business and the film industry?
This issue is not a concern, because if I am not here, I have inspectors for the shop, I have a sister who inspects the shop, and I have no problem with my ‘business’. , I manage everything exactly as it should be.
Before starting a movie, which actor or actress do you admire and why?
Before I started filming, among the movies that impressed me, God bless him and Rahma Ahmad S. Nuhu, he impressed me, because he has no pride, everyone is his own. I have never forgotten when we met him in Kaduna, the way he received us as if he knew us for a long time, he is the one who impresses me.
What advice would you give to those trying to enter the film industry?
My advice to them is; It’s not a crime that they came in, but in the film industry, the way you treat it, it will treat you like that. she went with you. The advice I will give if they are going to enter the film industry is to know which hand to fight, to know which hand to go to and if they do, try to protect themselves and keep their dignity, don’t act like they don’t know what they are doing. do not, if they are told that they will say yes, if they are asked to do this, they will say yes, if they are asked to stay here, they will say yes, because they love the film industry, no! they should try to lower their dignity, maintain their pride, and maintain their dignity, and they will see that they are considered more important and respected. And for a girl, if she is going to enter the film industry, she should try to let her parents know that they will support her and allow her to enter the film industry, she will see progress in her life, and she will see how they will respect her. She doesn’t ‘respect’ because she came from her parent’s house and joined the business, and her parents knew, and when she came in, she tried to keep her dignity, that’s the advice I will give them and they should know that glory belongs to God, so you go and do it. something is not that you will get glory, no! If God wills your share, you will eat food in the business, you will eat food in the business, you will not have to go astray.
What would you say to your fans who watch your movies?
