I will not be concerned if another governor tries to remove me – Emir of Kano Sanusi II

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, stated that he is not concerned about the possibility of another governor removing him from the throne.

In 2020, the former governor of Kano, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, removed Sanusi from the throne following a disagreement between them.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has restored Sanusi to his seat, while Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th King, is challenging his impeachment in court.

In an interview with the Saturday Sun newspaper, Sanusi stated that only God knows how long he will stay in power.

He said, “Even now that I am here, only God knows how long I will stay. I could die tomorrow. A governor might come and decide to remove me; it’s not something I worry about.”

But I’m relieved that he won’t touch the kingdom. I’m grateful that history won’t record my time as the moment this legacy was destroyed for a thousand years.

“I am grateful to this government and to Parliament for the reforms that have returned the kingdom to its rightful state. If I were to die or leave this position, I hope that my successor will continue the work we have started. This isn’t just about us; we want the system to be reformed,” said Sanusi II.
