Kannywood actress Khadija Ahmed, also known as Khadija Mai Numfashi, revealed in an interview with actress Hadiza Gabon on her show “Gabon’s Room Talk Show” that she faced struggles when she expressed her desire to start appearing in the Hausa movies of Kannywood.
She mentioned that she had been suspended by the Kano State Censorship Board from participating in any film projects for a while due to a video she posted on her TikTok page. She also shared that she faced difficulties before being allowed to enter the Kannywood industry at that time.
“When I wanted to join the film industry, I reached out to the Ayatollah, who was like my boyfriend at the time. He told me that there would be no chance for me to pursue a career in film without my parents’ consent. Despite my strong interest in appearing in the film program, I informed him that I was permitted to start a film in ours.
She continued, “After I appeared in a movie, my mother’s brother called me. When he showed me the video, he asked me who I was. Before I could answer, he slapped me on the cheek, and I burst into tears.
Similarly, I faced other challenges when my mother’s relatives refused to allow me to make a film. Eventually, my mother and I were taken to a place where a program was being filmed. After learning how to do it, she guided me. That’s the extent of my involvement in the movie, so I pray that God will bless it.”
When asked if she regrets what she did, Khadija, who was banned by the Kano State Film Censorship under the leadership of Abba El Mustapha from participating in any film for some time, stated that expressing regret is not enough.
She deeply regrets her actions to the extent of her suspension and is currently working to ensure that such a situation does not occur again in the future.
